Ronald McDonald House® in Australia accelerates growth to serve more families

Ronald McDonald House® reveals a bold ambition to double the number of families served by 2030 and a bold way forward to enable more family-centred care across Australia.

Wednesday, 18 March 2026 – Ronald McDonald House in Australia is reaffirming their ongoing commitment to families with the announcement of a new Global brand identity and ambitions to double the number of families served across Australia by 2030.

Each year, more than 89,000 families rely on Ronald McDonald House Programs across Australia as a lifeline when their child is ill or injured. As an essential partner to Australia’s pediatric healthcare system, Ronald McDonald House has eleven independently run Chapters that operate 56 programs and services providing critical support to families when they need it most.

A Bold Vision for Growth

Ronald McDonald House has a bold ambition: to double the number of families served across Australia by 2030. This includes expanding physical capacity, enhancing practical, emotional and financial support, and increasing access to essentials such as accommodation, places to relax near the hospital ward, meals, and supplies right to the bedside.

While Ronald McDonald House continues to grow across Australia, demand still outpaces availability in many regions – highlighting the need for continued expansion to ensure more families can access the care and support they need, when they need it most.

Approximately 34% (over 7 million) families live outside major urban areas in Australia, often in rural and remote communities.*R1 These families are often in areas without hospitals and with limited access to pediatric healthcare, making travel for care a necessity, often on short notice, and leaving their communities and support systems behind.

“Ronald McDonald House is essential in ensuring families get the support they need to remain fully involved in their child’s care, no matter where they live. The demand for Ronald McDonald House Programs has grown; by 2030, Ronald McDonald House Australia projects the demand for their Programs will reach 220,000 families per year,” said Barbara Ryan, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Australia. “Because of this, the organisation has an ambitious goal of doubling the number of families served by 2030.”

In 2025, the organisation celebrated expansions in our Programs at The Children’s Hospital Westmead, Queensland Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House in Adelaide. The organisation is looking forward to expanding four Programs and Services in 2026, with 17 more rooms across our Ronald McDonald Houses and 3 more Hospitality Carts across Australia. These expanded Programs will operate alongside Family Rooms, Family Hubs, Family Accommodation, Learning Programs and Family Retreats to provide essential wrap-around care for families through 60 programs across Australia.

Unveiling a bold way forward – a new look, with the same heart.

In late 2025, Ronald McDonald House Charities Global announced a refreshed global brand identity: Ronald McDonald House, which aims to better clarify their story, deepen the public’s understanding of their work and attract greater support.

This modernised global brand builds strength, unifying the organisation, while maintaining its core mission to remove barriers, support and strengthen families, to ensure the best health outcomes for their ill or injured child.

Ronald McDonald House Chapters across Australia will begin adopting the new identity starting today, with the aim to fully migrate by the end of March 2027.
